CHARDHAM YATRA in UTTARAKHAND is starting from 12th May 2024 onwards and The Best Time to do this Holy Pilgrimage is- From 12st May- 15th June 2024 & again From 10th September - 20th October 2024

Chardham Yatra (Pilgrimage) is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage consisting of four shrines named as Gangotri, yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath in Uttarakhand. It is believed that these holy shrines were established by the great saint "Sri Adi Shankracharya" during the 8th Century.

The Kapat (Door) Opening & closing Dates of Chardham Shrines in 2020:

Yamunotri Temple:  The Kapat of Shri Yamunotri Temple will open on 10th May 2024 & close on 31th October 2024
Gangotri Temple: The Kapat of Shri Gangotri Temple will open on 10th May 2024 & close on 2nd November 2024
Kedarnath Temple: The Kapat of Shri Kedarnath Temple will open on 10th May 2024 & close on 2nd November 2024
Badrinath Temple: The Kapat of Shri Badrinath Temple will open on 12 May 2024 & close on 09th November 2024

HERE IS THE CHARDHAM YATRA PROGRAM (From Delhi To Delhi)

DAY 01: DELHI/ HARIDWAR (225Kms & 6-7Hrs Drive)
This morning, drive towards Haridwar.

Arrive Haridwar and check into hotel.

In the afternoon, visit Har Ki Pauri and other temples.

In the evening, attend the wonderful “Ganga Arti" by the river bank at Har ki Pauri. The sight of hundreds of floating earthen lamps is a breathtaking sight.

DAY 02: HARIDWAR/ BARKOT (220Kms & 7-8Hrs Drive)
After breakfast at hotel, start the scenic drive towards Barkot through Dehradun and Mussoorie.

On the way, you can get regist yourself for Chardham Yatra, which is a must without any charge.

Barkot is the base of your mountain trek to Yamunotri.

Arrive Barkot and check-into hotel.
Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Barkot.

DAY 03: BARKOT- DAY TRIP TO YAMUNOTRI
After an early morning breakfast at hotel, drive towards Janakichatti.

Arrive Janakichatti and start 5Kms trek towards Yamunotri.

Before the religious rituals, take bath at Jamunabai Kund’s warm water. There are a Number of thermal springs in the vicinity of the temple, which flows into numerous pools. The most important of these is Surya Kund. One can cook rice by packing it in a cloth and dipping it in the hot water of the kund. Pilgrims take this cooked rice home as “Prasad”.

After you have been purified by the thermal waters, pay a visit to the Divya Shila. The rock pillar is worshipped before entering the temple. Enter the Yamunotri temple. The Maharani Gularia of Jaipur built the temple in the 19th Century. It was destroyed twice in the present century and rebuilt again. Offer your prayers and be blessed.

In the afternoon, start the downhill trek and return to hotel.

DAY 04: BARKOT/ UTTARKASHI/ GANGOTRI / HARSIL (220Kms & 7-8Hrs Drive)
After early breakfast at hotel, drive towards Gangotri via Uttarkashi.
 

Uttarkashi is situated at the bank of River Bhagirathi. The temple of Lord Vishwanath is located here, where a massive iron trident is erected.

The Gangotri Temple is an ancient 18^th century temple built of white marble located on the banks of River Bhagirathi. Constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa, the temple is dedicated to the River Goddess.

Arrive Gangotri and visit the Temple.

After Spending a few hours in Gangotri, drive towards Harshil, which is about 20Kms for overnight stay.

DAY 05: HARSIL/ UTTARKASHI/ GUPTKASHI (290Kms & 9- 10Hrs Drive)
After early breakfast at hotel, drive towards Guptkashi.
 

En-route enjoy the views of the beautiful river Mandakini at Tilwara, which originates in Kedarnath.

Arrive Guptkashi in the late afternoon and proceed for Kedarnath Pre-registration.

The name Gupt Kashi means “Hidden Benares”. Mythology describes that Lord Shiva stayed here hidden form the Pandava brothers who were searching for a glimpse of the Lord. There are more concrete connections as well-the Kedarnath pandas (hereditary pilgrimage priests) live in Gupt Kashi during the winter months, and after the Kedarnath temple closes for the winter, the image of Kedarnath passes through Gupt Kashi on its way to Ukhimath (across the valley), where it stays for the winter.

DAY 06: GUPTKASHI/ SONPRAYAG/ GAURIKUND/ KEDARNATH (30Kms By Road & 16Kms Trek)
After early breakfast at hotel, drive to Gaurikund via Sonprayag.

From here, you can start your trek to Kedarnath. The mountain abode of lord Shiva is located at a height of 3584mtr.

You can hire horses or pony (on direct payment). The Trek will take about 5-6hours.  

The Kedarnath shrine, one of the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, is a scenic spot situated, against the backdrop of the majestic Kedarnath range. Kedar is another name of Lord Shiva, the protector and the destroyer. According to legend, the temple got its name from a legend in Mahabharata. Lord Shiva was alluding the Pandavas who were seeking his blessings. Taking the form of a hull, he hid into the ground, leaving his hump on the surface. The remaining portions of Lord Shiva appeared at four other places and are worshipped there as his manifestations. The arms appeared at Tungnath, the face at Rudranath, the belly at Madhmaheshwar and his locks (hair) with head at Kalpeshwar. Kedarnath and the four above-mentioned shrines are treated as Panch Kedar. Attain the salvation your soul seeks here.

Arrive Kedarnath and check into government campsite.

In the evening, visit the Temple and do the puja rituals and take blessings.
Dinner & Overnight at Kedarnath.

DAY 07: KEDARNATH/ GAURIKUND/ JOSHIMATH (16Kms Down Trek & 150Kms & 6Hrs drive)
This early morning, visit the temple again.
After Temple Darshan, trek down to Guarikund.

Arrive Gaurikund and drive to Joshimath.
Arrive Joshimath in the evening and check into hotel.
Dinner & Overnight at hotel.

DAY 08: JOSHIMATH/ BADRINATH/ JOSHIMATH (45Kms one way & 2Hrs Drive)
After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Badrinath Ji.
 

Badrinath one of the ‘Four Dhams’ is one of the most celebrated pilgrimage spots of the country and is situated at an elevation of 3,133 meters, guarded on either side by the two mountain ranges known as Nar & Narayan with the towering Neelkanth Peak providing a splendid backdrop. This revered spot was once carpeted with wild berries. Thus the place got the name “Badri van”, meaning “forest of berries”.

Arrive Badrinath and visit Badrinath Temple.

Before you enter the holy abode of Lord Vishnu, purify yourself with a bath in the Tapt Kund. The natural thermal springs on the bank of the river Alaknanda, offers waters with medicinal qualities.

Later, you can visit around in Badrinath including Mana Village, Bhimpul and Vyas Gufa.

In the late afternoon, drive towards Joshimath.

Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 09: JOSHIMATH/ RISHIKESH (250Kms & 8Hrs Drive)
After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Rishikesh- The ‘place of sages’ is a celebrated spiritual town on the bank of Ganga and is surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides. It is said that when Raibhya Rishi did hard penances, God appeared by the name of” Hrishikesh” and this area hence firth came to be known as Rishikesh.

Arrive Rishikesh in the evening and check into your hotel.

In the evening, you can enjoy Ganga Arti at Triveni Ghat or Pramarth Niketan.

Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 10: RISHIKESH/ DELHI (250Kms & 6-7Hrs Drive)
