Uttarakhand Garhwal TourDuration : 13 Nights/14 Days Destinations : Delhi- Mussoorie- Haridwar- Kotdwar- Lansdowne- Pauri- Srinagar- Rishikesh- Delhi Uttarakhand is known as “Devbhoomi” or “Land of Gods” because of its many holy places & temples. Uttarakhand is also known for its Char Dham Yatra, which includes four Uttarakhand pilgrimage centers, called Char Dham in Hindi: Badrinath Temple (Dedicated to Lord Bishnu), Kedarnath Temple (Dedicated to Lord Shiva), Gangotri Temple (Dedicated to Holy river Ganga ) and Yamunotri Temple (Dedicated to Holy river Yamuna). Uttarakhand is very sacred for the Hindus as well as the Sikhs. Many Sikhs come to visit their holy place Hemkund Sahib from all around the world. Uttarakhand is also famous for its popular Hill Stations that cannot be missed during your vacation in the state. The major hill stations in Uttarakhand include Mussoorie, Nainital, Dhanaulti, Kausani, Almora, Mukteshwar, Ranikhet, Lansdowne, Pauri, Khirsu, Binsar etc. The elevation level of Uttarakhand varies from 1500 to 5000 meters above sea level and the highest point in Uttarakhand is Nanda Devi peak (7817Mtrs). Day 1: Arrive Delhi Arrive Delhi by International flight in the evening. Delhi, the city is acclaimed for being the cultural capital of India. The spectacular architecture of Delhi city is evident through its antique monuments. This city witnesses an interesting blend of diverse cultures (some even 5000 years old). Delhi has always had a mysterious eternity, the city having witnessed empires rise to glory and fall to ashes. The contemporary Delhi is a culmination of seven cities built by different emperors. Ruins of this ancient city are found even today and now converted to some major tourist attractions, which can be seen during city tours. You will be well received on your arrival at the airport and transfer to hotel. You will be welcomed at the hotel with a glass of welcome drink. After check- in formality, you will check in to the room. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Delhi. Day 2: Delhi After breakfast at hotel, proceed for full day city tour of Old Delhi (in the morning) & New Delhi (in the afternoon). The city of Delhi can broadly be divided into two parts, Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi was the capital of Delhi’s Muslim rulers notably the Mughals between 17th & 19th centuries. New Delhi on the other hand is referred to as the IMPERIAL city when the British decided to move their capital from Calcutta in 1911. The sightseeing of Old Delhi includes a visit to Jama Masjid which is India's largest mosque, built of red sandstone and white marble in the middle of the 17th century. Red Fort, a 17th century fort complex constructed by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the walled city of Old Delhi, Rajghat, cremation site of father of Nation- Mahatma Gandhi) and rickshaw ride through the streets of Chandni Chawk (Silver Street), once the imperial avenue down which Shah Jehan rode at the head of lavish cavalcades, is today bustling with shops, stalls and silversmiths' ateliers. Sightseeing of New Delhi includes a visit to India Gate, built in memory of Indian soldiers killed during the First World War. Drive pass Rashtrapati Bhawan, built in the early 20th century as the Imperial residence of the Viceroy is today the official residence of the President of India and Parliament House, an unique circular building with huge colonnades, houses the Upper and Lower Houses of Parliament. Humayun's Tomb is the first Mughal garden tomb. Visitors are immediately struck by the tomb's resemblance to its more famous cousin - the Taj Mahal - with its four grand gateways, octagonal base-plan, soaring niche-shaped arches, lofty double domes and the symmetrical garden with its central canal. And finally Qutab Minar, one of Delhi’s most striking monuments, which is the world's tallest brick minaret with a height of 72.5 meters. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Delhi. Day 3: Delhi/ Mussoorie (280Kms & 7hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Mussoorie. Mussoorie, Popularly known as the Queen of Hill stations, is 34kms from Dehradun (capital city of Uttarakhand) and situated at an altitude of 2003mts in the Garhwal hills of Uttarakhand. Mussoorie is one the beautiful hill stations in India and the most frequently visited. It provides excellent respite to people who want relief from the hot sultry conditions of the plains, especially since it is close enough to the capital to make just weekend trip. In 1820, Captain Young of the British army was influenced by the beauty of this place and made it his residence. The name, Mussoorie is derived from plants of 'Mussoorie' which were found in abundance here. After its discovery, this hill station gradually developed as a centre of education, business, tourism and beauty. Arrive Mussoorie and check in to your hotel. In the evening, walk around the famous Mall Road. Dinner & overnight at hotel in Mussoorie. Day 4: Mussoorie After breakfast at hotel, proceed for city tour of Mussoorie, visiting Gun Hill- enjoy a Ropeway ride to the second highest peak of Mussoorie. The Ropeway distance is only 400mtrs and and the sheer thrill of the ride is memorable. It offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri group etc. Municipal Garden- A picnic spot having a beautiful garden and an artificial mini lake with boating facilities. Childer's Lodge- Highest Peak of Mussoorie near Lal Tibba. Snow view from this spot is exhilarating. One can also visit Jharipani Fall, Bhatta Fall, Kempty Fall & Mussoorie Lake etc. Dinner & overnight at hotel in Mussoorie. Day 5: Mussoorie/ Dhanaulti (25Kms & 1hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Dhanaulti. Dhanaulti is a misty mountain retreat near Mussoorie lies at an altitude of 2286mtrs and has a serene beauty that will win you over. Dhanaulti is a blissfully secluded hill station as compared to Mussoorie. Tucked away in the midst of deep forests of deodar, oak, conifer, rhododendron and flame of the forest, Dhanaulti is a woody paradise that makes you forget where you are. Arrive Dhanaulti and check in to your hotel. Later, proceed for tour of Dhanaulti, visiting Eco Park, which was ddeveloped recently ECO Park, houses Protected patch of small forest containing Deodar Trees. Surkhanda Devi Temple, on the road towards Chamba, which is famous for its Ganga Dasahra fair in autumn. Himalayan Weavers, located on Mussoorie-Dhanaulti Road is Himalayan Weavers which produces hand-woven shawls, stoles, scarves and throws using only natural dyes and wool, and pashmina. Their aim is to produce high quality handloom products, popularize the use of environmentally friendly natural dyes and provide a market for craft products made in the Himalayan region. Aaloo Khet (Potato Farm), a Government Potato Farm, also popular as sunrise view point. Dinner & overnight at hotel in Dhanaulti. Day 6: Dhanaulti/ Haridwar (75Kms & 2-3hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Haridwar. Haridwar in the state of Uttarakhand has the eminence of being one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations of India. The holy town occupies a picturesque location on the banks of River Ganga, also referred to as 'Mother Ganga' by the Hindu community. Not only from across the country but from across the world, devotees and travelers arrived here to seek spirituality. The name 'Haridwar' means 'Gateway to God'. Haridwar is more popular for 'Kumbh Mela', the largest fair in human history, which is held here at the interval of every 12 years. Arrive Haridwar and check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, proceed for city tour of Haridwar, visiting the famous Har Ki Pauri, this ghat is one of the most sacred ghats in India. Mansa Devi Temple- situated at the top of Bilwa Parwat, the temple of Goddess Mansa Devi, literally meaning the Goddess who fulfills desires (Mansa), is a popular tourist destination, especially because of the cable cars, which offer a picturesque view of the entire city on the top of the hill etc. Also visit Daksheswara Mahadev Temple. According to Hindu texts, King Daksha Prajapati, father of Dakshayani, Lord Shiva's first wife, performed a yagna, to which he deliberately did not invite Lord Shiva. When he arrived uninvited, he was insulted by the king, seeing which Sati felt infuriated and self-immolated herself in the yagna kund. King Daksha was later killed by the demon Virabhadra, born out of Shiva's anger. Later the king was brought to life and given a goat's head by Shiva. Daksha Mahadev temple is a tribute to this legend. In the evening, witness the arti of holy Ganges at Har Ki Pauri. Dinner & overnight at hotel in Haridwar. Day 7: Haridwar/ Kotdwar (80kms & 2-3hrs drive) This morning, drive to Kotdwar. Kotdwar is located at the foothills of Shivaliks at a distance of 225kms from Delhi and 80kms from Haridwar. It is situated at an altitude of 395mtr from the sea level. Kotdwar literally means the gateway to Garhwal, which is a nearest railhead of Pauri Garhwal District in the hill state of Uttarakhand and famous for its temples. Arrive Kotdwra and check in to local house. You will be welcomed by the ladies in traditional costumes. Have Lunch and rest of the day at leisure. In the evening, proceed to visit Sidhbali Baba temple (dedicated to Lord Hanuman), which is the biggest temple in the town. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Kotdwar. Day 8: Kotdwar- Excursion to Kalagarh Dam Today after breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Kalagarh, situated at a distance of 48kms from Kotdwar and which is an ideal place for nature lovers. The dam across Ram Ganga River is worth visiting. It is a lovely drive and come back in the afternoon. Rest of the day, visit local houses, meet & share with people and know their daily life etc. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Kotdwar. Day 9: Kotdwar/ Lansdowne (40Kms & 1.5hrs drive) Today we will drive towards Lansdowne. Lansdowne is a beautiful hill station, got its name from Lord Lansdowne, who was the then Viceroy of India, during the period 1888- 1894. Lansdowne was developed by the British as the recruits training centre for Garhwal Rifles of British Indian Army. Today Lansdowne is the head quarter of Garhwal Rifles, a division of Indian Army. This great hill station is completely away from hustle and bustle and hence is distinct from the normal hill stations which are crowded. Arrive Lansdowne and check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, proceed to visit the town, visiting The War Memorial of the Garhwal Rifles, Tip-In-Top Point, which is a view point with an amazing sight of Lansdowne; St John's Church, which is the only church of worship in this quite town and St Mary's Church, which has been converted into a museum by Garhwal Rifles Regiment Centre. The buildings and churches and the town carry an atmosphere of the British period before independence. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Lansdowne. Day 10: Lansdowne- Excursion to Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple After breakfast at hotel, proceed for an excursion to visit Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple (38Kms & 1.5hrs drive one way), which is situated on top of a hill at an altitude of 2000meters, which is believed to be one of the ancient holy sites or Siddha Pithas. The main deity is Lord Shiva and many devotees visit this ancient temple to offer prayers and it is believed that the offerings here makes the wishes of the devotees be fulfilled. Mahashivarathri is celebrated annually with grandeur. The temple place is surrounded by thick blue pine forests, oak trees and dense Deodars. Return to Lansdowne in the afternoon. In the evening, visit the nearby town call Jayaharikhal, where there is one of best & oldest Inter College in the area with hostel facility. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Lansdowne. Day 11: Lansdowne/ Pauri (85Kms & 3-4hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Pauri. Pauri is a beautiful hill station and headquarter of Pauri Garhwal District. District Pauri Garhwal which is surrounded by the districts of Chamoli, Nanital, Bijnor, Haridwar, Dehradun, Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal, offers a panoramic view of the great Himalayas form its towns and villages. The majestic Himalaya and its mountain range can be seen from anywhere in the district. The Pauri City which is situated at an altitude of 1814mtr above the sea-level on the northern slopes of Kandoliya hills is the headquarters of the District Pauri Garhwal and the Garhwal Division. Headquarters of all Govt. departments are located here. Pauri also provides a panoramic view of the snow covered Himalayan peaks of Nandadevi & Trisul, Gangotri Group, Thalaiya- sagar, Neelkanth, Bandar Poonch, Swarga-Rohini, Kedarnath, kharcha Kund, Satopanth, Chaukhamba, Ghoriparvat, Hathiparvat and Sumeru etc. Arrive Pauri and check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, proceed for city tour of Pauri, visiting Kandoliya Temple, Stadium, which is the highest in Asia and Chawkhamba view point, famous for sunset. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Pauri. Day 12: Pauri/ Srinagar (30Kms & 2hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Srinagar, which lies on Haridwar- Badrinath highway. It is the headquarter of Garhwal University. Arrive Srinagar and check in to your hotel. Later, we can visit the university campus and can organise a lecture at department of Tourism, where we can interact with students. Also, visit some famous temples of Srinagar including Kamleshwar Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dinner & Overnight at hotel in Srinagar. Day 13: Srinagar/ Rishikesh (130Kms & 3-4hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Rishikesh. On the way, visit Dev Prayag. Devprayag is a small town situated at the confluence of River Alaknanda and River Bhagirathi and from here on the river is called Holy Ganges. Devprayag, which means ‘Holy Confluence’ in Sanskrit, was named after a Hindu ascetic, sage Devsharma. As per legend, Devsharma devoted his entire life in intense penance to attain a glimpse of Lord Vishnu and was subsequently blessed by Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Continue drive to Rishikesh. Rishikesh is a scenic town located on the banks of river Ganges and is an important access point to the famous pilgrim spots of the Himalayas such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The various spiritual centres, yogic ashrams located here have made this town the “world capital of Yoga”. The international tourists also drop in here in large numbers seeking spiritual enlightenment and also to enjoy the natural treasures of this place. Arrive Rishikesh and check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, proceed for city tour of Rishikesh, visiting Lakshman Jhula, Bharat Mandir, Triveni Ghat, Rishikund, Geeta Bhawan, Swarg Ashram and Trayambakeshwar Temple. In the evening, witness the evening arti of holy Ganges at Parmarth Niketan. Dinner & overnight at hotel in Rishikesh. Day 14: Rishikesh/ Delhi (250Kms & 7hrs drive) After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Delhi. Arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel, where a room is booked for Day Use.
